Sustainable Maritime Engineering

While shipping remains one of the most efficient forms of regional and global transport, there is still a need to reduce and manage Pollutions as caused by ships movements to keep shipping at the forefront of sustainable transport. Within the sustainable maritime engineering group there are a number of research themes addressing this issue are the GHG and air polluting emissions and ballast water management. This includes new and emerging technologies for mitigating exhaust gas emissions from ships; modelling, simulation and model-based prediction of exhaust gas emissions; alternative fuels and power sources; experimental measurements and assessment of marine engine exhaust gas emissions; new and emerging technologies for ballast water management; modelling, simulation and monitoring of sustainable ballast water treatment systems; and experimental measurement and assessment of Ballast water treatment systems.
