Engineer in Hydrodynamic Modelling of Subsea Vehicles – Soil Machine Dynamics Ltd (SMD)

Salary: up to £27,900 (depending on qualifications)

Based at Soil Machine Dynamics Ltd., Wallsend, Tyne & Wear, you will help to achieve the partnership's objectives to significantly improve the prediction of dynamic mechanisms when launching subsea Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) in rough seas. This will be completed through the development of numerical algorithms together with validation using the wave tank facilities at Newcastle University. The post will involve liaison between the university, SMD and a partner company with expert hydrodynamic modelling capabilities.

This exciting and technically demanding post is recruiting at post-graduate level. You must have a PhD or Master's degree (MEng, MSc, MPhil) in a relevant engineering discipline such as marine technology, hydrodynamics, subsea engineering or mechanical engineering. Relevant experience (academic or industrial) in the marine or subsea sector would be a distinct advantage together with good interpersonal, communication and team working skills. Personal motivation, drive, good planning and organisation skills, enthusiasm, creativity and the ability to work to tight deadlines are essential.

The position comes with benefits including a £4,000 individual training budget and management training. With the support of academic experts and a KTP Adviser, this is an excellent opportunity which will present an extremely interesting, varied and challenging role.
