Introduction

Dr Sergio Ribeiro e Silva is Senior Lecturer of Ship Design & Hydrodynamics in the School of Marine Sciences and Technology, and a Researcher at Newcastle University, seconded to Singapore. Before moving to Newcastle University, he was Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture Department at Technical University of Lisbon in Portugal. His main topic of investigation is hydrodynamics of ships and floating structures in waves, including parametric rolling, roll stabilisation systems and wave energy converters.
