Broadly the structural design and analysis of ships and offshore structures.
Reliability analysis of components and systems of structures.
Reliability - based optimal design of structures.
Probabilistic analysis of marine risers.

Application of ANN-based response surface method to strength assessment and reliability of marine structures
Effects of corrosion and crack on the strength of ships
Reliability-based performance assessment of damaged ships

I am the principal investigator and co-ordinator of a collaborative research, which is sponsored by Office of Naval Research (ONR). Three organisations, Newcastle University, University of Glasgow & Strathclyde, and Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division in USA, are involved in this research. The first phase started in July 2004 and finished in July 2006. The second phase will last for two years commencing in July 2006.
