Depending on your background, and preliminary tests and interviews, we will place you on a selection of modules on your foundation year, that are designed to build up your confidence and experience in basic material and extend applications to new engineering topics.
In the first semester your timetable, although mostly common to all students, will have sections individually tailored to suit your needs.
In the second semester the course is more uniform, though more Marine Technology biased options are available depending, together with options that reflect your interests.
Overall, you take just over half your modules in mathematics, mechanical sciences and applied mechanics. The remainder of your modules are assigned from a range of engineering subjects and include a project and laboratory work related to the engineering course you wish to go on to study.
At the end of the Foundation Year, if you can achieve the required standard in all your modules, you are ready to undertake Stage 1 of any of our many degree courses, which in turn equip you for a wide range of careers.
