Boatwork
Our research vessel, The Princess Royal has been designed by students and has adopted the catamaran style.
Students attend a day of boatwork at the commencement of Stage 2. Following laboratory demonstrations and instruction they carry out 4 mini-cruises during Stage 3, which illustrate aspects of shipboard data collection, sample taking and navigation.
Our students develop an understanding of Health and Safety issues associated with practical and field techniques such as those involved with Sea Survival. All Marine Biologists attend a training course on Safety at Sea before commencing their final year boatwork.
