Practical Skills

Practical Skills

Our degree programmes provide training in a variety of practical/field techniques, including a wide range of laboratory procedures, analytical techniques and field study procedures. Students also gain a knowledge and understanding of statistical procedures, computing techniques and the use of modelling and simulation methodologies.

It is important that students become familiar with the animals and plants associated with their course. Field studies are an important and integral part of both degree courses. In Stage One, Marine Biologists participate in field visits and field courses.

Students will develop an understanding of Health and Safety issues associated with practical/field techniques such as those involved with Sea Survival. All Marine Biologists attend a training course on Safety at Sea before commencing their final year boatwork practicals.
