Year 11 and 12 Conferences

Year 11 Conference

The School of Mathematics & Statistics will hold its Year 11 Conference on Wednesday 5th October. There will be two lectures during the afternoon, aimed at encouraging pupils to continue studying mathematics at A-level and beyond.

This year we are delighted to welcome Dr Paul Baxter to give the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) Schools Lecture at our event. Paul is the RSS Guy Lecturer for 2011. The second speaker will be Professor Robin Johnson, a long term member of staff at Newcastle University, and a favourite speaker at events for Schools.  The programme for the event is:

  • 14:00 ‘Are large databases good for your health?’, Dr Paul Baxter
  • 14:45 Refreshment break
  • 15:00 ‘The square root of 2’, Prof. Robin Johnson
  • 16:00 End

Year 12 Conference

The School of Mathematics & Statistics will also hold its Year 12 Conference in June 2012. There will be lectures, hands-on sessions and information and advice on applying to University. This event will give students an idea of what it will be like to study mathematics and statistics at University. Further details will appear here soon.
