Matt is the manager of Newcastle University Solve in the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. He joined the University in 1999 after graduating with a Masters in Mathematics and Statistics. He has worked for business and industrial clients within the manufacturing, service and healthcare sectors for over 20 years, finding innovative solutions to practical problems. He is highly experienced in engagement activities including consulting, training, student placement and applied research projects.
Experience:
- management of projects between academia and industry
- extensive experience of designing and delivering applied statistics training for business and industry in the UK and Europe
- the application of industrial statistics tools in manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments
- coaching and mentoring in the use of statistical tools to improve operational performance
- teaching and supervision of medical, dental, business school, biology and chemical engineering students
Roles and Responsibilities:
Matt manages Newcastle University Solve, the business engagement unit of the School of Maths, Stats and Physics.
He facilitates engagement projects with business & industry clients and collaborative research partners, and looks after the progression of Mathematical Sciences REF Impact case studies.
He regularly liaises with organisations cross-sector to identify their requirements, identify opportunities for collaboration and communicate technical solutions.
