Student Selected Components (SSCs)

Student Selected Components (SSCs) are a strand which runs throughout the curriculum and provides you with the opportunity to study topics of your own choosing. In 4th year an 18-week period allows you to choose a separate topic for each of the three six-week blocks. This is a particularly popular aspect of the curriculum which our students rate very highly.

Examples of SSCs available are:

  • Care of newborn babies
  • Medical Law
  • Complimentary Medicine
  • Tropical Diseases
  • Paramedic and air ambulance attachments

Another aspect of SSCs is an eight-week period of elective study which offers you the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world (in accordance with FCO advice) to gain hands-on experience and to make a significant impact in remote and rural communities (outgoing electives).
