The results for the Research Assessment Exercise 2008 were published on 18th December. Mechanical & Systems Engineering and Marine Technology, submitted jointly under UoA28, were highly rated for the quality of their research, with 50% of our submission being rated as 'Internationally leading' and a further 15% as 'World leading'.
In 'Research Quality' Newcastle came 10th in the UK.
In 'Research Power', where quality and volume are combined, we came twelfth in the UK.
For Engineering overall, Newcastle University came 9th on 'Research Power' and 14th on quality, where all engineering departments are included.
