Specialist research centres promote cross-faculty, interdisciplinary research and provide

- Design Unit
The Design Unit is a self-supporting commercial organisation providing design,
development and consultancy services to industrial engineering customers
in the fields of gear technology and metrology, testing and failure analysis,
medical instrumentation, and special machine tools.
- NewRail
NewRail is a dedicated railway research centre with a vast range of expertise
in diverse areas of the rail industry. The aim of this research centre is
to develop and maintain the highest international standards of excellence
in rail-related research.
- Knowledge Transfer
As part of the Research and Enterprise Services, the Knowledge Transfer role is to facilitate, develop and support the activity of
consultancy and commercial services throughout the University.
- RCID - Resource Centre for Innovation
and Design
A centre for the creation of a collaborative research and development environment
in which Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) can develop methods and processes
to enhance product development and improve their business performance.
