Dr Adrian Mouritz is the Head of Aerospace & Aviation at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Australia) and Professor of Aerospace Materials. Adrian worked as a Senior Research Scientist at the Defence Science & Technology Organisation (1991-2000) before joining RMIT University. Adrian has been studying and researching the mechanical performance of polymer composite materials for many years, including such topics as blast and impact damage tolerance, structural health monitoring and non-destructive evaluation, and novel methods for through-thickness reinforcement. He has collaborated with researchers at Newcastle University, most notably Prof Gibson and Prof Robinson, on modelling and testing the structural performance of polymer composites in fire, which is a major safety issue for aircraft, ships and rail carriages. Adrian has published extensively on the performance of composites, including several books and nearly 100 journal papers.
