Introduction

Dr Munguia joined Newcastle University as research associate within the EU-FP7 A-FOOTPRINT project: “Ankle and Foot Orthotic Personalization via Rapid Manufacturing”. Main activities on this project are focused on the implementation and use of additive manufacturing within the orthotics field.

My current research focuses on the use of Additive Manufacturing technology for custom made orthotic devices, particularly ankle foot and foot orthotics. Research includes: long term material testing, 3D CAD design & optimization analysis, materials & equipment selection. Other related interests include: Additive manufacturing, expert systems & Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE).
