For postgraduate taught programmes, applications for Accreditation for Prior Certificated Learning (APL) and Prior Experiential Learning (ApeL) will be considered on an individual basis, and on student request, by the Degree Programme Director..
APL/ApeL applications must demonstrate that all the learning outcomes of a module or module(s) have been achieved previously through certificated or experiential learning. The Degree Programme Director will consider applications in line with University policy and regulations relating to APL/APeL and with reference to the learning outcomes detailed in the Programme Specification and the appropriate Module Outline Forms.
APL/ApeL for non-modular programmes will be considered on an individual basis, and on student request, and permitted at the discretion of the DPD.
International Applicants Deposit
The University has agreed that all postgraduate, international applicants will be charged a deposit of £1,500, before a CAS (Confirmation of acceptance for studies) will be issued in accordance with UK Boarder Agency best practice.
The deposit will be counted against your tuition fee. It is not an additional charge.
If your Trust is sponsoring you, you will need to provide confirmation of sponsorship in the form of a letter on headed paper. This should be sent to ‘The Programme Co-ordinator’ clined@ncl.ac.uk detailing the exact amount of sponsorship Fees for 2012-13 before induction. Please note that you will not be able to register for the programme until either the first instalment of fees are paid by you or a letter confirming sponsorship is received from the Trust.
The Faculty of Medical Sciences provides bursaries for current NHS professionals who are classified as international students. The fund can provide up to the difference between home and international fees*. The bursary is open to all staff employed in an NHS Trust in the Northeast who have been offered and accepted a place on the Certificate in Clinical Education.
To be eligible for the bursary the member of staff must have applied for the course via E2R (our online applications system) online application form and have been assessed as overseas by the Graduate School. The Programme team will liaise with the Dean of Postgraduate Studies who approves the applications and inform Trusts and applicants directly. Assistance from this fund is available on a first come, first served basis.
*Dependent on the number of applications received from staff classified as overseas each academic year.
Potential students will also be required to provide a referee who will be able to comment on:
a) The student's professional context and current educational responsibilities
b) The student's potential to achieve the academic outcomes for the course.
FT Masters Students
Full-time Masters applicants will be interviewed. This can be a phone interview.
Intercalating students have an informal face-to-face interview before they apply.
The Higher Education Academy (HEA) accredits the Programme. Participants who successfully complete the Certificate are eligible to become Registered Fellows of the HEA.
