The Programme has a modular structure and is based on academic credits. Credits are accrued for each successfully completed module, and build into one of three qualifications:
The Northern Faculty of Medical Education (NFME) is a collaboration between Durham University, Newcastle University and the Northern Deanery. Its remit is to help support and develop education and training in health care across the region.
To that end NFME has developed a framework of markers that assess quality in teaching, assessment and management of the educational process, against which courses can be recognised. Details of the framework are available here
The certificate modules have been recognised by this process
All modules are worth 20 credits
The course is part-time and based around seven study days, which are spread throughout the year. These are supported by group tutorials (approx 2 hrs per module) and surgery (approx 30 mins per module), self-directed learning and assignments.

*Student must have completed the Investigating Clinical Education module (above) as part of the Diploma, before being allowed to progress to the Advanced Study Module.
The majority of this module is undertaken through self-directed learning with tutorial support from a project supervisor. This approach is appropriate to the level of independence in learning and subject specialisation required by this module.
