The Clinical Education Programme provides an opportunity for clinical educators to gain a qualification that will be of practical value and relevance to them in their everyday work. The Programme has been designed to provide its students with opportunities to develop a scholarly approach to clinical education and to acquire the expertise necessary for effective clinical education in the context of their own educational roles, responsibilities and interests.
The (FT) Masters is suitable for health care professionals who are taking a sabbatical or students who are taking a year out of the MBBS or BDS course to undertake an intercalated degree year. It is also appropriate for newly qualified health professionals or others who wish to develop an interest in clinical education. All the modules (Certificate, Diploma and Masters) are delivered in semesters one and two, with the submission of the Advanced Study Module dissertation in semester three, at the end of August.

The Programme has been designed to be compatible with busy clinical jobs that have multiple commitments and competing demands. The modules allow students to explore areas of particular interest or relevance for their own context. The assessments allow students to acquire the expertise necessary for effective clinical education in the context of their own educational roles, responsibilities and interests. The Programme does not follow a standard university weekly timetable because most part time students are also full-time health professionals. Each module schedules 2 or 3 study days as well as group tutorials during the semester. Other teaching and learning methods include individual tutorials, on-line exercises, ‘work-based’ tasks and private study. We provide opportunities for full time students to access appropriate experiences for these tasks.
Due to the popularity of this programme, places fill up quite early in the academic year. Please check with our Programme Co-ordinator for availability.
