Online Course Requirements

Find out about the qualifications, experience, technical software, and other equipment you'll need to study one of our online courses.

Course entry

To apply for one of our online programmes, you should have a health related or relevant primary qualification or an appropriate professional qualification. However, we’ll also consider applications on an individual basis if you have a lower or non-standard qualification and work in the healthcare profession.

If your first language is not English, you’ll need an overall IELTS score of 7.0 (with at least 7.0 in writing and reading and 6.5 in speaking and listening). Our English Language Requirements and Your Country pages provide helpful additional information on these topics.

IT requirements

You don’t have to be a technical expert to study our online courses but you should feel comfortable using the internet and collaborating with others online.

You’ll need a computer or laptop with an up-to-date web browser. It's also essential that you have access to a reliable broadband internet connection, so that you have unlimited access to live events and video content.

Technical specifications

You will need:

  • Windows 7 or above (32 and 64 bit) or Mac OSX 10.6 or above operating system
  • Intel Pentium, Intel Celeron, Intel i3, Intel i5, Intel i7, or recent AMD processor
  • 2GB RAM (at least)
  • broadband or mobile broadband connectivity
  • 1024 x 768 pixels screen resolution (at least)

You'll also need a webcam, headset and printer.

Throughout your course, you’ll use interactive tools including:

  • discussion boards
  • reflective journals
  • blogs
  • collaborative learning spaces

An online induction will show you how to use the software and interactive tools, before you begin your studies.
