Dr Jane Stewart

Senior Lecturer & Associate Dean for Quality, Assurance and Enhancement

Research

Jane has worked within the field of medical education for over 20 years, initially as a researcher within the Northern Deanery and then within Postgraduate Education. She has a MSc in Rehabilitation Studies (Southampton) and PhD in Education (Newcastle). Her doctoral thesis was concerned with the conceptual framework juniors use to judge risk when calling for help.

Her research expertise is in clinical education, specifically the development of professional knowledge within practice and has supervision responsibility for PhD and MD students studying in that area.  In recognition of her expertise she is currently the Chair of ASME’s Education Research Group.

As part of a new initiative Jane is currently seconded to Northumbria Healthcare Trust for two days a week where she works as an ‘Educationalist in Residence’ developing and supporting medical educational research.

Teaching

Responsible for the development of the Diploma and Masters components of the Masters in Clinical Education, Jane also led the development of the international programme. 

Having stepped down from the Degree Programme Director role in March 2011, and more recently as Module Leader for the Masters projects, Jane continues to act as a project supervisor and teacher within the programme.
