Research

My principal research interest is the optimisation of acetylcysteine treatment regimens for paracetamol poisoning to reduce adverse reactions without compromising efficacy. I am the Principal Investigator in Newcastle for the Scottish and Newcastle Anti-Emetic Pre-Treatment in Paracetamol Poisoning (SNAP) clinical trial. This showed that a shorter 12h regimen of acetylcysteine reduced the incidence of vomiting and anaphylactoid reactions (published in Lancet 2013).
