Sarcoma Research Group

Research Aims

Sarcomas are rare cancers that arise from bone and soft tissues and can arise in patients of all ages, including children. The aim of the Sarcoma Research Group at NICR is to bring together scientists and clinicians from all disciplines who can contribute to research into the basic science, epidemiology and treatment of sarcomas. We want to make a positive contribution to the understanding of these rare tumours so that we can make a difference to patients.

The group benefits from a close association with the North of England Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service, which comprises clinicians engaged every day in the treatment of sarcomas.

 Research Strategy

To develop multidisciplinary (basic science, translational and clinical) research in the field of bone and soft tissue sarcoma to complement the clinical multidisciplinary team. Areas of interest include epidemiology of sarcoma, new drug development, DNA damage signalling and repair, local therapies and comparative oncology.
