To provide knowledge and understanding of the need for Sustainability to be a key consideration in engineering practice and business decisions. To provide understanding of the tools and techniques that may be used to implement cleaner design for more sustainable products and processes.
Outline Of Syllabus
The need for Sustainable products and processes including an understanding of Environmental, Safety and Governance risks. Methods of cleaner product and system based techniques, including some, but not limited to, examples such as, Eco-efficiency, Natural Step, LCA, Industrial Ecology, ENVOP, Biomimicry, Decision making in Design. Methods of measurement, such as key performance indicators including sustainability indicators, footprinting tools, Business communication. This syllabus delivered through the use of lectures, dicussion and workshops or class exercises.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Key knowledge and concepts of Sustainable Development and Clean Design and Manufacture are taught in lectures, through discussion. Case study based workshops and practical exercises allow the students to evaluate and understand the limitations and applications of tools and techniques in practice.
The format of resits will be determined by the Board of Examiners
