The Technology Strategy Board and EPSRC have issued a joint call to stimulate business led innovation with technologies that can address the potential environmental, health and safety (EHS) aspects of development of nanoscale technologies. These may be in the form of an innovative EHS product or a solution to EHS issues with nanotechnology enabled products and processes. Support is available for feasibility studies lasting up to three months and each costing no more than £33,000 in total (with up to 75% of this available from the funders).

A list of Vacation Studentship schemes for 2011 is now available via the Research Funding Toolkit. The purpose of a Vacation Studentship is to give undergraduates with research potential a chance to experience research in an active laboratory/research team and to encourage them to consider a career in academic research when they graduate.
These awards are limited and made by open competition. The sponsors fund a maintenance fee to the student, usually for between 6 to 10 weeks. The closing dates for application are from February to May with the studentships taking place sometime between July and September. Applications are usually made by the academic supervisor on behalf of a named undergraduate, who should be in the second (or penultimate) year of their first degree.
