Andrei KurkovA literary reading
Location: Culture Lab, Newcastle University
Time/Date: 18th March 2010, 19:00
Andrei Kurkov was born in St Petersburg in 1961 and worked for some time as a journalist. He did his military service as a prison warder at Odessa, became a film cameraman, writer of screenplays and author of several darkly humorous novels including Death and the Penguin (2002) and A Matter of Life and Death (2006). The critically acclaimed The Good Angel of Death was published last year.
As he turned on the kitchen light, it went off again. They had cut the power, just like that. And in the darkness he became aware of the unhurried footfalls of Misha the penguin.
