Ian Jack writes a weekly column for the Guardian newspaper and edited Granta magazine between 1995 and 2007. He began his journalistic career in Scotland and later covered South Asia as a foreign correspondent. He edited the Independent on Sunday from 1991 to 1995. An anthology of his essays The Country Formerly Known as Great Britain was published in 2009.
