Darwin Festival Exhibition 14th-29th November

Location: Clore Learning Suite, Great North Museum: Hancock, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Time/Date: 14th November 2009 - 29th November 2009

This exhibition by the Centre will explore how barnacles have existed in mythology, literature and scientific research. It will illustrate Darwin’s connection with Albany Hancock, one of the brothers in whose memory the Hancock Museum was originally founded, and exemplify current research on barnacles as ‘pest’ in relation to shipping.

An event on 20th November, in the Great North Museum, will bring together Rebecca Stott, author of Darwin and the Barnacle, and Ruth Padel, author of Darwin: A Life in Poems and prize-winning poet, Sean O’Brien. Both Sean and Ruth have written poems specially commissioned for the event.
