2017 Basil Bunting Poetry Prize Shortlist Announced

We are delighted to announce the shortlist for the 2017 Basil Bunting Poetry Prize.

This year saw a record number of outstanding entries, which our judge, Ahren Warner, has managed to whittle down from the hundreds to these seven poets. In alphabetical order the shortlisted poets are:

Rowland Bagnall – ‘Lacuna’
Michael Brown – ‘The Waiting Room’
Peter Dukes – ‘Tragic, Super-Tragic’
Lisa Higgs – ‘Wild Honey Has The Scent of Freedom’
Jack Houston – ‘Last Bus’
Paul Stephenson – ‘Selfie with Waterlilies’
Jo Young – ‘Canopoly’

Congratulations to all the shortlisted poets!

Ahren will be announcing the first, second and third place winners at a prize giving ceremony on Saturday 13th May as part of the Newcastle Poetry Festival. Full details and tickets can be found on the Festival website.
