Congratulations to Professor Jackie Kay on winning the 2011 Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust Book of the Year for her memoir Red Dust Road. For the first time in the award's history, this year members of the public voted for a winner but Jackie's book was also unanimously selected by the award's judging panel.

The results of the £30,000 prize were announced at an event at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, where Andrew Dixon, chief executive of Creative Scotland, described Jackie as 'one of Scotland's national treasures'
