Background

Before coming to Newcastle Peter Reynolds was an Education Associate of the National Theatre and the Creative Director of the National's double BAFTA award winning performance-focused website, www.stagework.org.uk. At the National he also worked on documenting the rehearsals of many of the UK's leading theatre directors including Peter Hall, Nicholas Hytner, Phyllida Lloyd and Melly Still. He has run theatre workshops on behalf of the British Council and others in many parts of the world and published extensively in the area of performance and pedagogy including: 'Practical Approaches to Teaching Shakespeare' (OUP) and, with Richard Hahlo, 'Dramatic Events' (Faber). He is an International partner investigator at the Australian Research Council funded centre for the history of the emotions in Europe, 1100-1800, based at the University of Western Australia. In the summer of 2012 Peter organised a conference at Newcastle in collaboration with Northern Stage, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the School of English, focusing on International Shakespeare and featuring presentations from Ralph Cohen (American Shakespeare Centre), Erica Whyman (Northern Stage/RSC) and the writer and performer Tim Crouch. In November of 2012 Peter directed a group of Australian school students (age 10-18) in a production of Ben Jonson's 'Epicene or The Silent Woman' as part of the Australian and New Zealand Shakespeare Association conference at the University of Western Australia: (see http://universitypublishingonline.org/cambridge/jonson/blog/) In the Autumn of 2013 Peter returns to UWA to conduct preliminary research for a further full-scale production of an Early Modern boy's play in 2014.
