University Sports CentreAt Newcastle we believe that your time spent at University should be so much more than reading for a degree or a place of work. The Centre for Physical Recreation and Sport (CPRS), in conjunction with the Athletic Union (AU) and its 65 Sports Clubs, offers an exciting range of sporting opportunities designed to enhance the student and staff experience.
Performance Sport, under the banner of ‘Team Newcastle’ encompasses our Sports Clubs, was ranked 10th in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) table 2016/17 with outstanding performances from our Basketball, Fencing, Hockey, Rowing, Squash, Table Tennis and Water Polo Clubs. Newcastle will have 12 BUCS Premier League teams in 2017/18 with Badminton (w) gaining promotion to join Basketball (m & w) Fencing (m & w), Hockey (w), Rugby League, Rugby Union (m) and (w), Squash (m), Volleyball (w) and Water Polo (w). We have a fantastic sports scholarship offering which provides additional financial, support services and educational support to ensure high performing student athletes achieve their full potential.
Campus Sport comprising of Intra Mural Sport, the Exercise Class programme and casual usage ensures that students and staff have the opportunity to take up or continue their participation in sport at a level suitable to them. 2016/17 will see the consolidation of the exercise class program at 45+ classes in term time and 25+ classes in vacations whilst the 10 sport Intra Mural program will be supplemented by several cup competitions and the Campus Sport Tournament. All these exciting opportunities are available once you become a Sports Centre member.
The Newcastle University Student Union (NUSU), who operate the student run AU clubs, will once again be running the Give it a Go, Hall Sport and Inclusive Newcastle programs.
