The recently completed RAILECT project, led by Dr. George Kotsikos of NewRail has been featured in an article published by the European Railway Review. The article can be viewed here.
The main aim of the project was to develop a phased array ultrasonic technology system to penetrate, examine and assess welds in the CEN 60E1 rail profile. Field trials of the RAILECT system were highly successful and have generated a lot of interest from the industry. A commercial, marketable version is hoped to be available to the industry within the next few months.
