RailLinks is a UK-Brazil rail-based research collaboration, centred on the innovation challenges of sustainable rail transport.
- Project Dates: 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018
- Project Leader: Dr Marin Marinov, NewRail, Newcastle University
- Staff: Dr Marin Marinov
- Sponsors: The British Council, under a Newton Fund Grant Agreement
- Partners: Newcastle University; Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil(UFSC)
A UK-Brazil collaboration, centred on shared rail-based research and innovation challenges associated with sustainable rail transport, RailLinks has direct relevance to safety, environment, health, business, social welfare and economic development in Brazil as it will tackle the “congestion” problem, by encouraging the removal of lorries and cars from Brazilian highways and roads.
The Project will stimulate collaborations with the railway industry in both countries, to secure longer term links in rail between the UK and Brazil. Academia and industry will join forces to analyse and understand the longer term benefits from such collaboration, encouraging the development of joint rail research projects and intensive rail training programmes for knowledge exchange.
