Unfortunately, on-campus accommodation at Newcastle is not available for the SLAS conference. However, given the city centre location of the campus, there is a wide range of options close to the conference.

Sharing Arrangements
We realise that many of you will want to keep accommodation costs to a minimum. All of the selected hotels have twin beds in double rooms and you are free to make your own arrangements regarding sharing partners prior to making your booking with the hotel. If, however, you would like us to help you find someone with whom to share a room at the Premier Travel Inn, please complete the "Twin-up" booking form. This is a service we are providing to match up people to share the cost of a twin room with another conference delegate of the same sex. Once you have the details of a "match" you can book the room with the booking service on the NewcastleGateshead web link above.
Beyond the promotional literature found on each hotel’s website, we thought that you might find the following information useful in making your decision.
Express by Holiday Inn, Newcastle City Centre.
In the heart of the city centre. It’s a five minute walk from the railway
mainline and metro stations. It’s a twenty minutes easy walk to the conference
location (alternatively, it is two short stops on the metro).
Premier Travel Inn, Newcastle City Centre, New Bridge Street.
Again, a standard hotel in the heart of the city centre. Its main advantage
is that it is the closest accommodation to the conference location (a ten minutes
easy walk). For this reason, we have designated this hotel as the one for which
we are arranging room-sharing arrangements (Twin-up).
Swallow Imperial Hotel
This small, friendly hotel is on the outskirts of the city centre in the pleasant
district of Jesmond. It is very close to the Jesmond metro station and is only
one stop from the conference location.
Caledonian Hotel
This small, friendly hotel is on the outskirts on the city centre in the pleasant
district of Jesmond. It’s a five minutes walk to the West Jesmond metro
station and is only two stops from the conference location.
Premier Apartments
An unusual choice, but it could work out to be quite economical. You can choose
apartments with one bedroom or two bedrooms. All apartments are of a high standard
and have kitchen facilities and might be a good option for a family or small
group of delegates. It’s a five minute walk from the railway mainline
and metro stations. It’s a twenty minute easy walk to the conference location
(alternatively, it is two short stops on the metro).
Albatross Backpackers In!
Cheap accommodation in hostel-type accommodation. When I went there, I was impressed
by the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of all the rooms (the hostel
is one year old). It’s in the heart of the city centre, being a two minute
walk from the mainline and metro railway stations. It’s a twenty minute
walk to the conference location (alternatively, it is two short stops on the
metro). A word of warning: being a weekend, the Albatross is bound to be a little
noisy at night. We have tried to reduce the impact of this by arranging for
all SLAS delegates to be placed on the same floor, but there’s no guarantee
that you’ll get an uninterrupted night!
