Domestic Travel
Information on how to get to Newcastle can be obtained from the Newcastle Gateshead Initiative website at: NewcastleGateshead.
We also thought that you might find the following information useful:
Air: If you are travelling by air to the United Kingdom, check the possibility of direct and/or indirect flights to Newcastle International Airport. There may not be much difference in the price of the air ticket and you will save a lot of time and money travelling into and out of London. Alternatively, instead of flying to London, you might also like to check flights to Edinburgh. There are frequent bus and rail links between Edinburgh and Newcastle.
If you are travelling to Newcastle from Europe, you may wish to check various budget airline companies (Easyjet, Ryanair, and Jet2 all fly into Newcastle airport).
Train: International visitors are often shocked at the high price of transport in Britain (especially by train). We strongly recommend that you try and book your journeys to and from Newcastle well in advance. By doing this, you will usually get a much cheaper price. In order to help you, you may wish to use the following web link:

The travel time from London to Newcastle is approximately 3 hours. It is worth
spending a little time searching for the cheapest options: sometimes it is cheaper
to book to singles than buying a return ticket.
Bus: There are buses from London to Newcastle with National Express. Although it is cheaper than the train, the service takes approximately 6 hours.
Transport in Newcastle: If you arrive in Newcastle by air, avoid the expense of a taxi by getting the metro train from the airport to the city centre for around £3. If you arrive by train, the mainline station is in the heart of the city, very close to many hotels and the conference location.
How to find us on Campus
As you will see on this map, the nearest transport landmark to campus is Haymarket Metro Station. From the metro station, it is a 5 minute walk to all of the conference venues.
As a SLAS delegate, we have arranged for you to have a three-day travel
pass which will allow free travel on the Metro system and on all QuayLink buses.
This pass will be in your conference pack. This will be very useful when travelling
within the city centre, from the city centre to the airport, and from the city
centre to the cultural attractions on Newcastle and Gateshead’s Quayside
(egs. the Baltic, the Sage, the Tyne Bridge).
