¡VAMOS! FESTIVAL WEEKENDER
April 12th – 15th 2007
¡VAMOS! is returning in a mini-weekend from April 12th-15th 2007.
The first ever ¡VAMOS! Festival took place in July 2006. We were thrilled to introduce this 10-day festival of music, theatre. Film, food, literature and fashion from Spanish and Portuguese speaking global cultures to the North-East region. The festival gathered artists from all over the world and the region to celebrate those cultures in NewcastleGateshead together.
As art of the festival, there was also the ‘Popular Musics of the Hispanic and Lusophone Worlds’ conference, organized by Newcastle University which took place during the closing weekend of the festival and attracted music specialists from allover the world.
This year’s ¡VAMOS! weekender will coincide with Newcastle University hosting the annual conference of the Society for Latin American Studies. We hope delegates will enjoy the varied programme of events across NewcastleGateshead. Visit www.vamosfestival.com for further details (programme to be confirmed in February).

2007 LAUNCH EVENT
What does it feel like to know that you are about to be killed?
Nearly a decade ago, a terrified village in southern Mexico sought
refuge in a small wooden church & awaited their inevitable fate.

been told.
This documentary screening is introduced by Mexican History

Brewster (Newcastle University) followed by a Q+A session with
filmmaker Nick Higgins.
Nick Higgins is also the author of ?Understanding the Chiapas
Rebellion? & the current director of the Cultural Studies
programme at
Edinburgh University.
On the 12th of April to mark the opening of the VAMOS festival a
special preview screening of A Massacre Foretold
Nick Higgins will then be discussing the making of this
film between
9am and 10.30am on Sunday the 15th of April as part of the Art of
Truthtelling: Narratives of Conflict and the (Im)possibility of
