Childhood Cultures Research Group

Contacts | Events

The Childhood Cultures research group brings together colleagues from every School in the Faculty, with a very wide range of interests in the ways that children and childhood have contributed to, participated in, and been represented and perceived by societies and cultures across time and place. We place a high value on the participation and contributions of research students, and have associate members at the universities of Northumbria, Sunderland, and Durham.

The goal of this exceptionally interdisciplinary group is to explore new convergences and trajectories in research on children and childhood, with a particular emphasis on thinking creatively about the theoretical and methodological issues that cross disciplinary divides. Our research strategy has two aims:
1) to develop a collaborative research culture, drawing on our different disciplinary strengths and expertise to generate new collective activities and outputs
2) by acting as expert advisors and critical friends to each other, to provide constructive support for individual research
