Title: ‘Genetic Survey of Wirral and West Lancashire

Abstract: This talk explains how the use of old surnames has helped us to link old genes with modern geography in an area which has experienced a very large population movement since the start of the Industrial Revolution. Y-chromosomes were tested from 50 Wirral men and 100 West Lancashire men bearing surnames recorded in ancient subsidy rolls and church records. 6 markers from each were tested and compared with a database of over 13000 mens chromosomes throughout Europe looking for the highest frequency matches.
