3 silent Shakespeare movies adaptations on the big screen with LIVE musical accompanment

On Sunday 4th September, British Shakespeare Association conference at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in association with the Tyneside Cinema hosts an amazing special event.

Audiences will get a rare chance to see three silent short adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays, screened with live musical accompaniment.

The programme includes two versions of Hamlet, one from 1910, and the other from 1917 and starring celebrated Italian screen and stage actor Ruggero Ruggeri. The third film in the programme is a spoof version of Othello from 1920.

This unique show is brought to life by Internationally renowned Shakespeare on film expert Judith Buchanan, of the University of York. Judith is joined by Mary O’Connor on piano.
