Clinical and Translational Group
The Clinical and Translational Group (C and T) brings together clinical researchers and scientists to create an innovative programme of research. The group benefits from infrastructure funding via the Newcastle Cancer Centre, and the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre programmes. This support provides funding for data managers, specialist research nurses and core laboratory staff to ensure that all of the clinical trials activity of the Centre is accompanied by high-quality translational research.
The key research aims of the Clinical and Translational group are to:
- Optimise the use of new and existing drugs, using tumour- and patient-specific biomarkers
- Identify novel opportunities for tumour-specific treatments by detailed tumour profiling
- Establish a portfolio of key biomarker techniques to complement the clinical research programme
The strength of the group is in using their complementary experience and expertise in order to design and implement clinical studies that draw on and inform the parallel laboratory investigations into cancer.
