Solid Tumour Target Discovery Group

The Solid Tumour Target Discovery Group has focussed its research on the major adult solid tumour types. These include cancers originating in the bladder, breast, kidney, ovary, prostate and upper gastrointestinal tract. In our programme of research, we focus on the identification and validation of specific genes that are aberrantly expressed, mutated or whose function is altered in cancer patients. We aim to exploit these genes as novel targets for cancer therapy.

Our vision

The Solid Tumour Target Discovery Group works in close collaboration with other NICR research groups, regional Hospital Trusts and the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Centre to:

  • Develop molecularly targeted therapies against major adult solid tumour targets, identified and validated through our research programmes
  • Identify reliable biomarkers to facilitate cancer diagnosis and clinical treatment and to predict response to drug treatment for the major adult solid tumour types
