Newcastle University Business School will play host to a panel debate between three music industry professionals who have had illustrious careers working with popular bands from the likes of Queen and Jethro Tull, to chart toppers such as Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Guy Garvey and Jarvis Cocker.

Audience members will be treated to insights from: Tony Wadsworth CBE, former Chairman and CEO of EMI Music UK & Ireland; Terry Ellis, Co-founder of Chrysalis Music; and Paul Rodgers, Head of Programmes at BBC Radio 6 Music, the UK’s most popular digital radio station.

The music trio, who are all Newcastle University graduates, will share their stories and experiences of the music industry, discussing the route from record players to iPods and answering your questions.

Terry Ellis worked with an impressive portfolio of music giants over the years such as Blondie and Spandau Ballet.  The Chrysalis record label was eventually sold to EMI in 1991 and during that time Terry worked in the USA, produced TV series Max Headroom and worked with the likes of Scottish comedian, Billy Connolly. He was founder Governor of the BRIT School of Performing Arts in Surrey.

Bolton-born economics graduate Tony Wadsworth chaired the Business School’s Battle of the Bands event in 2012, and continues to speak at guest lectures in his role as Visiting Professor. Among other roles Tony has been Chairman and CEO of EMI Music UK & Ireland, and Managing Director of the Parlophone music label, and has worked with artists from Coldplay to Queen, and the Rolling Stones to Radiohead. Tony is also currently the Chairman of the BPI and Chairman of Brit Awards Ltd.

Paul Rodgers, an English literature graduate, is now the editor for BBC 6 Music.  The station covers a wide range of music genres from the 1960s to the present day: the station also aims to support and present live music and new artists and has received three key Sony nominations; and won Station of the Year at the Sony & Music Week Awards. Paul is responsible for programme commissioning and presenting new talent to the network, as well as the day-to-day running of the network.
