An education in Wealth Creation - Ben Benson, Leadership Series

AMBA logoNorth East businesses and students were given a rare insight into what it takes to become a successful and wealthy entrepreneur at the latest Newcastle University Business School Leadership Event on 27th July 2010.

Ben Benson - The 7 Laws of WealthHosted by businessman and renowned author Ben Benson, and facilitated by Dr. Andrew Simpson, Director of Executive Programmes for the Business School, the event entitled ‘The 7 Laws of Wealth’ focused on Benson’s book and programme of the same name. The programme explores how successful people achieve their objectives and delves into the traits Benson has found prominent in the business leaders he has studied over the years.

Starting his business career aged just 15, Benson became a millionaire by 27 and today manages several businesses across the UK and America.  Benson’s business interests include finance, venture capital, real estate and publishing and he has built one business alone to be worth over £12million in less than four years.

At the Business School event Benson also spoke about his personal experiences and the lessons he has learnt over the course of his career. In addition, he has interviewed over 200 of The Times Rich List and written countless articles as well as two books on wealth creation and wealth sustainability, which were also major discussion topics.

Speaking about the event, Ben Benson said: “The Newcastle University Business School Leadership event was a great opportunity to meet North East business people and budding entrepreneurs. Having had the opportunity to study a host of business people from SMEs to multi-national business, I have been lucky enough to meet and interview a lot of interesting characters and form valuable conclusions on what makes them stand out from the crowd.

“Through this research I have been able to uncover some universal traits that a lot of successful entrepreneurs share and I know people at any stage of their career can benefit from this information.  Wealth is a skill and a science that everyone has a right to and the benefit of being aware of what makes a business thrive and what makes a successful entrepreneur is immense. I hope everyone at the event took something away with them that will help with their career, study or business ventures.”

The event was the second of three Leadership Series events penned for 2010, which focus on entrepreneurship and business leadership. The first took place in April and saw Will Dracup, the Business School’s seventh David Goldman Visiting Professor of Business Innovation explore lessons learnt from starting up his own business alongside Jon Riley, Technical Director, of 3D image browsing software developers See-Fish Technologies.

Tristan Alltimes, Marketing and Alumni Manager for the Business School added: “We were delighted to welcome Ben Benson to host our latest Leadership Event. Historically, our Leadership Series was designed for our Alumni audience but it has proven to be of further interest to regional business people, students and staff alike. The series has grown and developed and will continue to do so as we bring more of the UK’s leading business speakers into the Business School in the future.”

Benson has given over 2000 seminars and consulted with senior managers at companies including: Bank of America, Cisco, Federal Express, Hallmark, BMW, Kodak, Kimberly Clark, American Airlines and Ford.
