The Director of Newcastle University Business School, Professor John Wilson, has been awarded an honorary fellowship with one of Japan’s leading engineering societies.
Over 89 people have received such an accreditation: however Professor Wilson is the only member outside of Japan to be given this title from the Technology and Society Division of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME).
During the International Conference on Business and Technology Transfer (ICBTT) held at the Business School in December, Professor Wilson was presented with a certificate of commendation - signalling his new affiliation - due to his influential work within the group.
The ICBTT has been going for ten years, having had conferences in the UK, Japan and the USA. It is aimed primarily at understanding the flow of engineering technology around the world, initially from West to East, but latterly the other way (especially from Japan).
The JSME - founded in 1897 - has sponsored these world-wide events in order to disseminate the knowledge from these conferences to its 37,000 members in Japan. The aim of this society is to ‘advance science and technology, and thereby contribute to the development of industries.’
Professor John Wilson said: “With a working relationship spanning 12 years I was delighted, and truly honoured, to be given such a title from the JSME.
“JSME represents a way in which we can network and really add value to this field of industry, on an international scale.
“The annual ICBTT conference brings together engineers, scientists, social scientists and historians, offering a genuinely cross-disciplinary mix of approaches to this complicated subject.”
