The Business School’s Induction Week kicks off on Monday 23 September, offering new students the opportunity to take part in a number of exciting events and activities. To help integrate and settle students into their new surroundings, initiatives like the Student Marketplace will run throughout the week.

Located in the reception area, the Student Marketplace will host competitions, give away freebies, discounts and information on how to get involved with extra-curricular activities throughout the students’ studies; click here to view the full list of activities.

Over the course of the week the Business School will be running a photo competition on our Facebook page and Twitter channel; students will be asked to find the School mascot, Bizzy Bee, and submit a photo of them and the bee for a chance to win a prize.

Some University bodies will also be exhibiting, including the University’s award-winning Careers Service, as well as the Student Union’s Go Play representatives, who will showcase different sporting societies and teams – from table tennis to pilates; Bollywood dancing to football.

Also, whether the students have queries about getting involved in a student-run newspaper, becoming a paid ambassador for the Business School, joining a society, or creating a business from scratch, staff will be at the Marketplace to provide advice and support.

Not forgetting, regional organisations such as the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, and companies like The French Oven and The Northumberland Club will also be at the Business School providing discounts for events, products and activities in the City.

The Business School’s Associate Director (Learning, Teaching and Student Experience), Dr Colin Ashurst, commented on the importance of Induction Week:

“Studying business is challenging; it’s not just about the theory from textbooks, it’s about being able to apply that knowledge and put it into action to make a difference in the world.

“Induction Week allows us to encourage students to take advantage of the support provided by the teams here at the Business School to enable them to do this.  This week represents the start of a challenging journey for students; it’s a time of transition, from familiar to new.”
