Graduates get off to a Flying StartThe latest round of graduates from BA (Honours) Business Accounting and Finance offered jointly by Newcastle University Business School, PwC and ICAEW (the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) are celebrating their recent graduation.
The degree, known as the Flying Start degree programme, was the first of its kind in the UK and combines academic study with paid professional work experience and a fast track route to qualifying as a chartered accountant. This year saw the fifth round of students graduate from the programme and almost all of the 20 graduates have now begun their careers with PwC, either in the Newcastle office or in other offices around the UK. The students can expect to qualify as chartered accountants in the next year.
Paul Woolston, Senior Partner, PwC, Newcastle said:“PwC is committed to providing the best opportunities for career development. This programme is brilliant at supporting our local community and strengthening our business by attracting skilled and motivated students to the firm. It is wonderful to see so many of our Flying Start graduates achieving such success and I wish them all the very best in their careers with us.”
Shaun Robertson, ICAEW’s Head of Learning said: “ICAEW is proud to be working in partnership with Newcastle University and PwC for the ultimate benefit of the students. Congratulations to the 2010 graduates and we wish you every success in your future careers.”
Andy Holden, Degree Programme Director, Newcastle University Business School said: “I am delighted to report that the degree programme continues to go from strength to strength. 2010 sees the fifth cohort of students graduating and the ninth cohort of students commencing their journey on the programme. All 2010 graduates received job offers with our partner, PwC, having successfully completed the Professional Stage of the ICAEW examinations and three challenging work placements. This is a fantastic achievement and is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of the students, staff and all partners involved in the programme."
