An internationally-acclaimed US academic will be sharing his expertise of entrepreneurship during his tenure at the University's Business School.
Distinguished International Scholar, Professor Scott Shane is this month making the first of four visits which will take place over two years.
A series of activities have been organised during his time with the university, beginning with an academic seminar Born Entrepreneurs? Born Leaders? on 19th October.
Professor Shane is respected internationally both for his scholarly work and his active role in informing practice. He has written extensively about entrepreneurship and innovation and was the 2009 winner of the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research.
"The combination of a strong history of excellent scholarly inquiry into important aspects of business with a practical focus on helping the business community attracted me to work with Newcastle University," he said.
"Few institutions are interested in developing explanations for what happens in the business world and then testing out the validity of their theories with their own actions. Newcastle is one of those universities."
Professor Shane has also written for popular audiences and been a regular commentator on television programmes, appearing on CNN and Fox Business.
He is the A Malachi Mixon III Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies and Professor of Economics at Case Western Reserve University, Ohio.
