A diverse business community rallied together this month to celebrate Newcastle University Business School’s awards ceremony for its executive education programmes.

Following their graduation at the Business School, students have been awarded prizes for their talents, providing inspiration for the current cohort, working hard towards their final assessments.

Over 100 people gathered to see which students had been picked from across the executive MBA, MBA and MSc in Healthcare programmes, for the ‘best student’ and ‘best dissertation’ awards.

The Business School’s Director of MBA and Executive MBA Programmes, Juli Campey, said: “Events like this allow the Business School to take stock, and see what great work has been done over the past academic year.

“It days like today when all the late nights, tight deadlines and juggling priorities, make sense, and we send these business people back into the North East to make a difference.

“It was great to see that so many of the awards sponsored by previous students who had studied the same course: every year we create a community and its brilliant to see everyone back together for one last time.”

Current MBA student Neethu Vetrivel said: “As a current student I found the graduation awards and rewards not merely an annual function of distribution, but actually a way in which the Business School takes on its role as caring and nurturing its students.

“I really feel part of a community at the Business School and I am looking forward to complete my MBA; today really inspired me to keep up the hard work!”

Michael Price, winner of the best EMBA student award, commented on the highlight of the programme:
“Undoubtedly the most beneficial part of taking up the MBA has been the quality of the teaching, having the opportunity to be taught by some of Europe's leading academics - Professors Harvey, Carter and Nicholson, to name but a few. Their enthusiasm and knowledge of their subjects really drove my interest in their disciplines.

“In addition to this, the facilities available to support studies are first class; having access to these resources has enabled me to make the most of my academic potential.”

Jenny Peng Gillender, winner of the best MBA dissertation award, spoke about the ways the programme has impacted her personal experience:

“I feel like I have grown so much as a person during the MBA in terms of confidence, and the experience has really given me a great opportunity to undertake tasks in real life business scenarios.

“I have also gained exposure to people from 13 different countries around the world, which I would not have been able to do without the Business School. These are people who I will be friends with for the rest of my life.”

The news comes as the Business School completes its busy postgraduate congregations ceremonies, which saw hundreds of students graduate in December.
