On 2nd December 2009 Professor Pooran Wynarczyk was, for the second year running, a judge at the F1 in Schools North East Regional final event at Discovery Museum, Newcastle.
Professor Wynarczk has recently published a paper ‘An Empirical Investigation of the ‘F1 in Schools Challenge’ in the North East of England’ and Andrew Deniford, Chief Executive of F1 in Schools travelled to the regional finals to discuss it with her.
Pooran was delighted to see more schools in the region taking up the challenge to design, construct and race, a race car of the future, made from a block of balsa wood, and powered by a compressed air canister. The car is raced over a 20 metre track and the fastest time is recorded. Teams also produce supporting evidence of their design, develop a sponsorship and marketing campaign and produce team merchandise. The children’s ages ranged from 11 - 14 year olds, with prizes given for age groups, fastest car, innovation, identity and many more.
On March 16th 2010, SERU and the Business School will again be hosting
