On the track of ignorance

A Newcastle University Business School academic, Dr Joanne Roberts, has received global recognition for her research efforts after having her latest paper featured in The Canberra Times, Australia.

The paper, titled ‘The Ignorance Economy’, was co-written by Dr Roberts alongside John Armitage from Northumbria University and focuses on the premise that for every advance in the knowledge based economy, we create an equivalent deficit in the economy of ignorance. For example, specialising in a certain subject involves the individual gaining more and more knowledge of that subject. The specialist will begin to know more and more about less and less, therefore, ignorance increases as the specialist’s knowledge is accessible only to the specialist.
