David LevinsonName: David Levinson

Job title: Business School Careers Adviser

What do you do within the school?

I talk to students across all of our courses in the Business School about careers and employability. Undergraduate students will see me each year from Stage 1 where I talk about employability and will discuss CV writing to students on the core module ‘Personal, Professional and Key Skills Development’.

In Stage 2 and Stage 3 I talk at induction or early in the semester, covering topics such as how to make the most of your time at university, how to find work experience and how to choose your future.

What is the favourite part of your job?

I enjoy helping students and graduates achieve their goals by providing them with the information, advice and guidance that they require. A large part of what I do involves helping to boost students’ confidence so that they believe in themselves – an essential factor in self marketing!

How can the Careers Service help students during their time at university?

There are so many things that you can get involved in while you are a student that can help to prepare you for your career as a graduate. The Careers Service runs an extensive programme of workshops, employer events and fairs to help you to develop your skills and to network with employers. As one of the University’s ncl+ partners, we are also involved in helping students to find opportunities and experiences to enhance their employability and develop key transferable skills. Gaining experience while you are a student will help you to feel better prepared for work, study, travel...whatever you choose to do next.

Can students get access to careers advice after they graduate?

Absolutely!  We support our students for three years after their graduation. The Careers Service can also help students who are seeking to develop a business idea and they may access our business start-up resources for an indefinite period following graduation.
